The aim of this course is to provide practical guidance for implementing a cost effective census strategy by coordinating the population and housing census with the agricultural census.

The target audience of this course includes population and housing census and agricultural census planners and implementers: population and housing census managers/coordinators, agricultural census managers/ coordinators, heads of statistics in Ministries of Agriculture, heads of National Statistical Offices; and statisticians implementing Population and Housing Censuses or Agricultural Censuses.

  • Integrating the population and housing censuses with the agricultural censuses
  • World census of agriculture programme
  • Approaches to select items for an extended agricultural module of the population and housing census
  • Building a frame for the household sector of the agriculture census
  • Improving the efficiency of sample design through the data collected in the population and housing census

The course consists of 8 lessons, ranging from approximately 20 to 65 minutes duration each:

  • Lesson 1 – Background and contexts
  • Lesson 2 – Concepts and definitions
  • Lesson 3 – Basic Population and Housing Census (PHC)
  • Lesson 4 – Extended agricultural items for inclusion in the PHC
  • Lesson 5 – Approaches to integration
  • Lesson 6 – Building sampling frames for the agriculture census
  • Lesson 7 – Improving the efficiency of survey designs
  • Lesson 8 – Producing preliminary results
