Bivalve mollusc sanitation: growing area assessment and review

This course addresses the subject matter from at technical perspective but is written for the general public. Individuals who would especially benefit from taking the course include:

• Policy makers. 
• Development practitioners and programme managers. 
• Sectoral specialists and researchers. 
• Bivalve farmers. 
• Trainers and extension agents. 

• The scope and review of the growing area assessment in terms of potential hazards identified in the growing area profile.
• Documenting relevant data gathered in terms of sources of contamination and environmental factors in the assessment area.
• Documenting and analyzing shoreline survey data and undertaking an indicator and/or hazard survey.
• Using quantitative assessment techniques to evaluate the presence of hazards or indicators in a growing area.

The course consists of 8 lessons, ranging from approximately 20 to 70 minutes duration each: 

• Lesson 1 - Introduction to the Growing Area Assessment;
• Lesson 2 - Data gathering on contamination sources
• Lesson 3 - Gathering data on environmental factors
• Lesson 4 - Shoreline, indicator and hazard surveys
• Lesson 5 - Data analysis and assessment
• Lesson 6 - Types of quantitative assessments
• Lesson 7 - Outcomes of the growing area assessment
• Lesson 8 - Growing area review
