This course introduces the most commonly used methods to assess food availability at regional, national and local levels. It provides guidance on the key aspects to consider while planning availability assessments. It also provides examples and explains what criteria to use for selecting the appropriate availability indicators.
The target audience of the e-learning course includes:
- Mid-level managers, technical staff, field personnel who are involved in the collection, management, analysis, and reporting of food security information.
- Planners, policy formulators and programme managers who are involved in monitoring progress in poverty reduction, and meeting food security goals and targets.
- Methods and tools to assess food availability at regional, national and local levels.
- Estimating crop production and methods for calculating household level food stocks.
- Planning an availability assessment.
- Availability indicators used at national and household levels.
- Selecting availability indicators.
The course consists of 2 lessons of approximately 45 minutes duration each:
